Overview

Nyerere is Africa’s largest protected wilderness. The Rufiji River and its lakes make it one of the few parks where you can combine game drives, boat safaris and walking.

Nyerere National Park was created in 2019 from the northern part of the Selous Game Reserve. The Rufiji River and its lakes and channels shape the park, so a safari here combines game drives with boat safaris among hippos, crocodiles and birdlife.

It is one of Africa’s largest national parks, and one of the few in Tanzania where walking safaris are a regular part of the stay. It is a short flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.
